In 2012 African Energy set a new record for annual revenues. This doesn’t sound like news – everyone in this industry normally sets a new record every year. But the last few years have been very different. The price of solar modules has dropped so dramatically that we have struggled just to keep revenue flat. Last week we finally stepped back and calculated where our revenue would be today assuming 2008 module prices. The view was encouraging. We are distributing a lot more watts to Africa than we were four years ago, even if the bottom line doesn’t show it. Most of us are in this business to make money, but also to make a difference. Well, if we can’t always do the former, we are at least doing the latter!
